UITS Boot Camp 2024

The UITS is organizing Boot Camp 2024 to help participants acquire or enhance practical computing skills, equipping them for the workforce or enabling them to start small businesses. The Boot camp is open to anyone who has the passion to explore computing:


Programme Summary

  • There are three tracks to choose from (see below for track details)
  • Registration Process
    1. Make payment of GHS 350.00 at the KNUST UITS Directorate or at ANY GCB Bank Ltd nationwide. The bank account details are as follows: 
      • Bank Name:  GCB Bank Plc
      • Account Name: KNUST UITS Production Unit
      • Account Number: 6031130001426
      • Account Branch: KNUST     
      • Note: Participant's name SHOULD be indicated on the Pay-in slip (PIS). Those paying for their wards should indicate ward's name on PIS
    2. Visit https://web.knust.edu.gh/bootcamp/ and click Get Started to create an account. Subsequently, you can just login.
    3. Login with your account and register. You will be required to upload evidence of payment
    4. Your registration will undergo a validation and confirmation process within 24 hours of registration
    5. If successful, you will receive an email and SMS on track details ( track WhatsApp Group link,  track schedule and track venue)
  • Participation Fee: GHS 350.00
  • Registration window: Friday 16th August 2024 to Monday 9th September, 2024
  • Orientation: Monday 9th September, 2024, 10am, at the KNUST Amoono Neizer Conference Center(Pool side) OR KSB Graduate Block B Conference Room.
  • Periods for lessons:  Tuesday 10th September 2024 -  Friday 4th October 2024
  • Assessment of project work: Monday, 7th October 2024 - Friday 11th October 2024

Track 1: Software Development
Objective
In this track, you will:

 

  • Be able to install and use IDE, DBMS and Data Architect software like Visual Studio, SQL Server
  • Understand the concept of databases in general and  relational database in particular
  • Be able to model and develop relational databases 
  • Be able to define and manipulate data in a database using SQL Server Management Studio (DDL and DML)
  • Understand the concept of programming in general and object oriented programming in particular in C#
  • Be able to develop a web application in the c# programming language.
  • Undertake a real life project to harness all knowledge acquired

Track 2: Systems/Networking/Cybersecurity
Objective

In this track, you will:

  • Understand Networking Fundamentals: Grasp the basics of networking, network topologies, OSI Reference Model, TCP/IP protocol suite, and IPv4/IPv6 addressing.
  • Explore Systems Administration and Network Configuration: Learn about systems and Unix administration, network devices, cable types, and engage in hands-on labs for configuring LANs, subnetting, and IP setup.
  • Delve into Cloud Computing and Virtualization: Explore cloud computing models, virtual LANs (VLANs), and practice setting up virtual network environments.
  • Configure and Secure Wireless Networks and Email Communication: Understand Wi-Fi standards, secure wireless networks, and grasp email communication best practices and security.
  • Introduce Cybersecurity Concepts: Learn about cybersecurity, common threats, frameworks, and risk management

Track 3: Computer Hardware
Objective

  • Have hands-on practical experience in the computer hardware discipline which prepares you for IT careers such as IT support specialist, Field service technician, Tier I Help Desk Specialist, Desktop support specialist, and Systems support technician.
  • Be introduced to operating systems and understand their installations, startup and means of troubleshooting.
  • Understand assembly and disassembly of computers and troubleshoot a wide range of devices, from computers to smartphones.
  • Learn how to configure, improve and administer device security and backups.
  • Understand the basics of networking leading to setting up and troubleshooting simple networks.
  • Be able to adequately prepare towards writing the Comptia A+ certification.
