Divisions

The UITS is made up of five (5) divisions headed by Deputy Directors. They are;

Software Development

The software Development Department is primarily responsible for developing software required by the University depending on the required skill, time, and availability of such skilled personnel. They are also responsible for all support services that require changes to the structure of the software in question.

Network Operations and Infrastructure 

The network and Infrastructure Department is in charge of procurement, operations, and management of both the physical and logical network infrastructure of the University.

User Support Service

The Department coordinates five (0-4) levels of support and manages the KNUST IT Support Centre.

• Level 0 support involves automated or self-service solutions that users can access themselves without the aid of the Help Desk.
• Level 1 support filters Help Desk calls and provide basic support and troubleshooting including ticket routing and escalation to higher levels of support.
• Level 2 support involves known user hardware and software support issues escalated from Level 1 support.
• Level 3 support involves unknown user hardware and software issues escalated from either Level 1 or Level 2.
• Level 4 support involves support from service providers outside of the University or the Directorate.

Information Security & Technology Assurance 

The Information Security and Technology Assurance Department serves as the research and development unit of the Directorate. They are in charge of developing IT Policies and ensuring its implementations. They also coordinate the technology mission of the Directorate and serve as the quality control and assurance of IT systems and Infrastructure.

Systems & Data Management 

The Systems and Data Management Department are responsible for all servers hosted at the Data Centre. They are also responsible for all server installation and system maintenance, update and upgrade of operating systems, and maintenance of applications that run on these servers.
