UITS Embarks on Staff Retreat 2022 at Moree

On Thursday 1st of December 2022, the staff of UITS, KNUST embarked on a 4-day retreat to Moree in the Central Region of Ghana. The Directorate ushered all staff to a change of environment. The motive of this retreat was for team building and socialization, and also to enhance work intellect through informative training sessions. 

The welcoming and serene coastal environment of the Nyanspo Eco resort made a resulting impact of a calm and relaxed mind for the goal of this retreat.

The conference, themed “IT Governance in Higher Education'' was held on Friday, 2nd December, 2022. The opening address and introduction of the Chairperson and staff was carried out by the Director of UITS, Mr. Emmanuel Afful. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, KNUST, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo. The Pro Vice- Chancellor, who was ardent and supportive in the organisation of this retreat, chaired the seminar and motivated the staff with a well inspiring speech on the appropriateness of the theme.

Mr. Carl Sackey, the resource person did the honour of giving an in-depth presentation on IT governance. He expounded on various sub topics such as: Strategic Alignment, Value Delivery, Risk Management, Resource Management, Performance Management, as well as frameworks and recommended IT certifications.

The event continued the next day on Saturday. A review of the retreat seminar was presented by two Deputy Directors, Mr. Joachim Akute Azu and Mr. Kojo Ankar Brewoo.

Each division then had a breakout meeting, to prepare a presentation on the division’s vision, targets and implementation of IT Governance. This was later presented to the entire Directorate by the respective Deputy Directors of each division amidst an interaction session with staff. Based on this, a communique was developed for the University Management's consideration.

As part of the Directorate’s corporate social responsibility, members donated some used items including clothing and electronic gadgets to the indigenes of the Resort’s location and interacted with some members of the community. 

Staff also made time to relax with activities such as morning exercises, beach bonfire party, board games, sporting games and many other activities.

The UITS gathered at Nyansapo Eco resort for a final vote of thanks and group photographs before checking out and setting off back to Kumasi. The collective remarks of the staff were satisfying and all appreciation was granted to the School’s Management, UITS Directorate and the various sub-committees for making the trip a FANTASTIC one.
