Migrating to Microsoft Outlook (Microsoft 365/Office 365)

KNUST is moving from Zimbra Email to Microsoft Outlook. 

 

What is Outlook?

With Outlook on your PC, Mac or mobile device, you can:

  • Organise email to let you focus on the messages that matter most.
  • Manage and share your calendar to schedule meetings with ease.
  • Share files from the cloud so recipients always have the latest version.
  • Stay connected and productive wherever you are.

 

Your KNUST Microsoft Outlook email account is part of the Microsoft 365 software suite. With your Microsoft 365 account, you can get:

  • The latest licensed productivity apps, such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and so much more.
  • The ability to install on PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones.
  • 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage.

 

What must you do?

  • Your emails will be automatically migrated to Outlook starting Friday, 8 March 2024 at 20:00 GMT. If you have already migrated from Zimbra to Microsoft Outlook then you will not be included in the migration.
  • You will receive communication via SMS text when the migration is about to start.
  • Please do not attempt to access your Zimbra account during the migration period.
  • You will receive communication via SMS text when the migration is completed with instructions about how to access your account.
  • Access your KNUST emails at https://outlook.office.com after the migration

 

What you should know?

  • Only message items in a user's mailbox will be migrated. Contacts, calendar items, or tasks will not be migrated
  • Email messages larger than 35 MB won't be migrated.
  • A maximum of 500,000 mail items from a user’s mailbox can be migrated (emails are migrated from newest to oldest).
  • Folders with a forward slash ( / ) in the folder name will not be migrated. If users want to migrate folders that contain forward slashes in their names, they have to rename the folders or replace the forward slashes with a different character, such as an underscore character ( _ ) or a dash ( - ).

 

Migration Period

  • Migration will start from Friday, 8 March 2024 at 20:00 GMT to Monday, 11 March 2024 06:00 GMT

  • If you have trouble accessing your email account after the migration, please contact your College/Faculty/Department/Unit IT Manager for assistance.
  • After the migration, if your old emails were not imported, please contact your College/Faculty/Department/Unit IT Manager for assistance.
